BASEMENTS AND RELICS OF ST. JOHN PAUL II

BASEMENTS AND RELICS OF ST. JOHN PAUL II

Beneath the Church of San Pellegrino lies an evocative underground area, the result of a major redevelopment carried out between 2014 and 2015. The former ossuary was transformed into a new crypt, now serving as an underground chapel dedicated to Saint John Paul II.

This space, rich in symbolic and spiritual meaning, is a place of reflection and remembrance for the community.

Inside the church, a precious relic of Saint John Paul II is preserved: a lock of his hair, transferred there on the occasion of the first patronal feast celebrated on October 22. Following the municipal merger in 2014, Saint John Paul II became the patron saint of the city, making Trecastelli the first city in Italy to officially recognize him as its patron saint.
