War Memorial of Monterado

You are standing in front of the Monument to the Fallen of Monterado, one of the town’s most meaningful sites of historical memory. The monument was inaugurated on 10 September 1922 to honour local citizens who lost their lives during the First World War (1915–1918).

Originally, it stood in front of Palazzo Cinciari (now Palazzo Rodano) and was crowned by a bronze statue of a winged Victory, no longer present today. At the centre of the monument, a marble slab lists the names of those who fell in the First World War, accompanied by the inscription “Caddero per l’Italia” (“They fell for Italy”).

In 1996, the monument was relocated to this panoramic green area along Viale Enzo Paci, creating a quiet space for reflection. In 1954, through the initiative of the local National Association of Combatants and Veterans, two commemorative parchments were added in memory of those who fell or went missing during the Second World War.

Today, the monument invites visitors to pause, remember, and discover an important chapter in Monterado’s local history.
